Product Use
Following the collection, your dog’s blood donation is then processed so it can be used to save as many lives as possible. Each blood donation can save up to three other dog's lives!

Uses of blood products
Why would a dog need a blood transfusion?
Similar to humans, sometimes our pets require life-saving blood transfusions.
Toxins
Toxins that cause bleeding, such as rat bait and some snake bites. Or toxins that cause liver failure (the liver is responsible for helping to stop bleeding) such as cycad ingestion.
Immune-Mediated
Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia (IMHA) is an autoimmune destruction of red blood cells and is one of the most common causes for dogs to require multiple blood transfusions.
Trauma
Severe trauma resulting in acute blood loss, for example being hit by a car.
Cancer
Some cancers can cause bleeding from a mass or on a systemic level.
Surgery
Sometimes during complex surgical procedures, significant blood loss can occur, requiring transfusion.
